Old School Beer Books!

I was at Longfellow's in Portland today looking for interesting used books when I stumbled across a used copy of The Big Book of Brewing by Dave Line in really good condition. For $3.25 it was hard to say no to a book about beer and homebrewing that was first published in the UK way back in 1974!

After some research online it turns out that Briton Dave Line, an electrical engineer by trade, was one hell of a great homebrewer and has written a couple other books about brewing. Before his untimely death in 1980 he inspired many with his vast amount of self-generated beer recipes.

The black and white pictures in this book alone were well worth the money I paid for it and I look forward to reading about the types of improvisation required for homebrewing in the 70s. This was likely one of the first books many homebrewers in the US bought after Jimmy Carter legalized the hobby.
